Meet Erwin
In the summer of 2022, I traveled to Switzerland to visit my friends Urs and Verena, who took me high into the mountains to their cabin. Near there, we met Erwin, a caretaker of tradition as much as of cattle. Living simply among the peaks, he moves his herd from hill to hill, seeking the richest grass to produce the finest milk. His work—an ancient practice of pasturing cattle—is a rare, fading art, a quiet testament to a way of life deeply in tune with the land, the seasons, and the rhythm of the mountains.
